Vampire Survivors’ latest update, Update 1.14, lets a whole lotta things cross over with other things. Their paid crossover DLC, Ode to Castlevania, just got a load of new content, with an unchanged price. So if you’ve already bought it, the new goodies there are free too!
You can even cross over with your own friends — online Co-op is here! Again, no fee. There’s a few key differences between that and local co-op, and we’ll dive into them more later.
Oh, and there’s also a brand-new Balatro crossover. I guess. If you’re into that sort of thing. No big deal. And yes, it’s also free.
What’s New In Vampire Survivors Update 1.14?
The new Balatro crossover sees you dive into the ‘Ante Chamber’, and will let you play with 4 new characters, 4 new weapons, and boasts a remix of Balatro’s main theme playing over the new stage.
You can find the new Balatro content through a special merchant in Moongolow, forking over 50k gold coins to get the Joker Disk. You’ll proceed from there down a ‘chain of unlocks’ to get all the new goodies.
Meanwhile, in the Castlevania DLC expansion, the new characters are secrets you can discover after getting all main unlocks of the DLC. The unlock methods there are redacted by spoiler tags in the Steam blog post discussing the update, so we’ll be similarly spoiler-free here. Get ’em from the source, or uncover them yourself!
As for the differences between local and the new online co-op modes, the post lists 7 changes in all. You can find them below:
- Batch level up — Depending on the player count you will only see level up after all players have leveled up. So on 4 players the level up screen will only show every 4 levels.
- DLC — You will only be able to use DLC online if every player owns that DLC. We’re retro-fitting Online into an originally single player game written in JS by a solo dev, so there are a lot of technical issues we have to move around or worry about later, one of which is the way that DLC expansions are handled.
- Бесплатный роуминг — In online you are not restricted to the same screen, you can all freely move around the stage independently. (Note: You will be pulled into a boss room if any player walks into it)
- Режим зрителя — When you die in multiplayer you can use the mouse to jump to players who are still alive. You also respawn where they are if you are spectating them.
- Достижения — You will have the choice at the end of the run to carry over any achievements earned in that run back into your own save file.
- Ускорение — Disabled in online.
- Перерыв в меню — To help flow, when you pause, you do not pause for everyone else, you just get a small window of invincibility
