CD Projekt Red has some bad news for fans of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on consoles, as the mod support for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S has been pushed back to 2026, with no solid release date given.
Despite launching a decade ago, there is still a huge audience for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This has been aided by the TV series, which has inspired a ton of interest in both The Witcher games and books. As such, CD Projket Red has kept the game updated for new platforms, as well as getting the game working on the Nintendo Switch.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was originally going to receive mod support for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, that won’t be happening this year, as the official The Witcher Twitter/X account has announced that this mod support has been delayed to next year.
How Will Console Mod Support On The Witcher 3?
The intention is for a similar PC/console mod hybrid support that’s currently used by Baldur’s Gate 3. The idea is that PC mods that are were created using REDkit should work without issue on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
The players who want to use mods will need to use a tool called mod.io, which has its own account and log-in. Once The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been patched, the mod.io support should be added.
While The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt fans on consoles will likely be upset with the delay, it helps that it’s happening during one of the busiest gaming periods of the year. From now until the end of the year is a cavalcade of new releases, to say nothing of the titles that have launched in the past few weeks. Geralt fans have had a decade to play around with his two swords, so they can afford to wait a bit longer.
