It was a long time coming for a new Skate game, and our feelings are a little mixed.
On the one hand, it’s a live service game that comes with all the trappings of the live service genre. On the other hand, it left us cautiously optimistic about the game’s future. After all, this is still Early Access, and there’s plenty that EA can change.
Ultimately, here’s where we stand right now:
With that being said, let’s take a look at how the live service aspect is progressing.
Oh, well, that’s not good.
So here’s a quick rundown of things. In Skate 3, there was a really good Dead Space skin that was not only free but looked путь better than what’s currently available today.
Yes, you might be saying that Skate is a freemium live service game, but I’ll counter that with the fact that paying over $40 for a skin, regardless of whether or not it used to be free, is absolutely insane.
Skate’s Overpriced Dead Space Skin Is The Latest In An Unfortunate Trend

To make matters worse, the downright absurd pricing structure is just the latest in an ever growing trend of trying to squeeze money out of our pockets.
Last week came the news that Xbox Game Pass was jacking up its prices by 50%. Oh, and don’t forget the fact that EA was recently acquired by a group led by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund for $55 billion.
As you could imagine, people aren’t happy. «It’s not even his Metal RIG either, this is literally just slop cosplay with cardboard and tape. Who thought this was a good idea?» said one fan.
The original poster said it best: «People will be defending the multibillion dollar companies with that shtick until the end of time.»
So it begs the question: what would you like to spend your $40ish on: a bad skin for Skate, or, I don’t know, Expedition 33, which has sold over 5 million copies and will see a free content update. Or perhaps you’d be more inclined to support two incredible indie studios with Hollow Knight: Silksong and Hades 2.
Or you could do what I’ve been doing recently: playing Megabonk and eating Pad Thai from a local restaurant. That’s certainly $40 better spent, especially since the game froze up on me when I was trying to grab in-game screenshots for this article.
