GFK Entertainment reported on Monday that Mario Kart World retook first place in the UK games sales charts during Borderlands 4’s second week of release. As of the week ending on September 20, the critically acclaimed RPG remake Trails in the Sky: 1st Chapter has launched at a low 19th place on the chart.

Mario Kart World Blue Shells Borderlands 4
Mario Kart World has seemingly been selling gangbusters as the game keeps retaking first place in the UK sales charts since its June 2025 debut. It’s also impressive if you consider that the Nintendo Switch 2 is an early system and doesn’t have the install size of the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC userbase.
According to Nintendo, 5.63 million copies of Mario Kart World have been sold as of June 30, 2025. That is wild.
Borderlands 4 is now down to second place after one week of release, which is quite a surprise as it has been a critical success with 95% of outlets recommending the title, according to OpenCritic.
Some fans have been unhappy with Borderlands 4, however. It currently holds a Mixed rating from Steam reviewers, mostly due to its lack of optimization on PC. The game also reportedly doesn’t run well after multiple hours of gameplay on consoles. A recent patch published last Thursday has fixed the ing, however, according to the official Borderlands support website:
- Исправлены сбои, связанные с состояниями анимации, звуком и проверками столкновений.
- Исправлены различные сбои, связанные с графическим процессором.

Donkey Kong Bananza remains strong, taking the bronze position at third place. It recently received a DLC set on DK Island with a roguelike mode that has you collecting Emeralds. It costs around $20, which some fans think is too pricey, especially when compared to the jam-packed Hollow Knight: Silksong with hours of content.
Our review said, «Donkey Kong Bananza delivers […], giving DK his first 3D adventure in decades and solidifying him as one of Nintendo’s top stars, even if the final product is too derivative of Super Mario Odyssey.» It can be argued that Donkey Kong’s latest outing is the best Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive yet.
Despite the release of Mario Kart World, its predecessor on the original Switch is still doing well. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe took fifth place last week, despite the game selling 68.86 million copies as of June 30.
Challenging Mario Kart World’s place on the throne this week includes Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and EA Sports FC 26, among others.
